This question is probably one of the most frequently asked questions about eye make-up: Eyeshadow - where should it be light, where should it be dark? Basically, you can apply lighter colours to the entire eyelid up to the crease. They make your eyes appear larger and more awake. But a gentle, light highlight in the inner corner of the eye and on the highest point of the eyebrow also creates an immediately fresher, radiant look.

Darker shades, on the other hand, are ideal for creating depth and definition in the eye. Apply them directly into the crease of the eyelid and blend carefully.

Dark tones = more depth and definition

Drawing eyeliner with eyeshadow- a good idea?

This trick is perfect for subtle everyday looks or if you like softer eye make-up. When applied as eyeliner, eyeshadow creates a softer line than liquid eyeliner. Another advantage: While liquid eyeliner requires a steady hand and a lot of precision, eyeshadow can be touched up in no time - this guarantees the perfect eyeliner! A precise, angled or tapered brush is best for application. You can apply the eyeshadow either dry or wet.

Dry application: Use a dry brush to pick up the eyeshadow and apply it thickly along the lash line. Then gently blend the eyeliner outwards

1. First, take a rounded brush with dense bristles and a flat shape. The thick bristles hold the colour pigments well and when applied, the eyeshadow is rich and intense. Apply the eyeshadow to the movable eyelid and the inner corner of the eye, but also to the outer corner of the eye.

Wet application: Use a damp brush to pick up the eyeshadow and apply it in one stroke along the lash line.

Our tip: A setting spray is ideal for moistening the brush  . Thanks to its fine spray, it is easy to dose and enables a perfect, soft eyeliner. Alternatively, a practical eyeshadow pencil is also suitable.

Do you want to be able to apply make-up to your eyes like a professional? Then use the right brush for each styling step!

2. Make sure to clean the brush thoroughly before applying another colour, e.g. by squeezing it on a dry cosmetic tissue. This will prevent the colours from mixing together unsightly when you apply them.

3. A slanted eyeshadow brush is better for the eye crease and the darker tones . You can use it to work the darker tones into the eyelid crease. For blending, it is best to use a special blender brush with soft and wider bristles. You can use it to shade and highlight colours particularly beautifully. This blending brush is also suitable for contouring individual parts of the face or applying powder.

Beauty hacks for cream eyeshadow

If you prefer to apply your cream eyeshadow with a brush rather than your fingers, you should use a flat, tightly bound synthetic brush. This type of brush will help you apply the cream eyeshadow evenly and with high coverage. Synthetic brushes are ideal for cream products because they are less porous than brushes with natural bristles and therefore "absorb" less product. This allows for a more even application.

To blend your cream eyeshadow, use a synthetic blender brush with soft, dense bristles. They are gentle on sensitive skin and allow you to blend the edges seamlessly.

It is best to apply a delicate eyeshadow cream with clean fingers, a brush or small sponge. Blend it well so that no unsightly edges appear. You can build up the intensity of the colour as you wish and apply the cream eye shadow several times. There are no limits to your creativity!

Tip: Our Multi Balm stick is also the perfect cream eyeshadow. The soft-melting texture is ideal for application on the eyes (as an eye shadow stick).

Which base for eyeshadow?

To create a more even surface and thus an optimal foundation, use a special eye shadow base or primer.

"Why doesn't my eye shadow stay put?" or "Why does my eye shadow always smudge?" - Have you asked yourself these questions often? We can understand! After all, nothing is more annoying than an eye shadow that has slipped or evaporated. We'll tell you how to make your eyeshadow stay put better.

Concealers, foundations or a liquid highlighters also create a good bases for eye make-up. They create a more even and "sticky" base for eye make-up. This means that your eyeshadow stays on the eyelid longer without slipping into the crease and the colour comes across even better.

Pro tip:

You can also set the concealer with a loose powder to ensure it lasts even longer. This makes the application even more even. With these tricks, the question of why your eye shadow always smears is guaranteed to be a thing of the past.

What to do when your eyeshadow crumbles

Your favourite eye shadow has fallen down and now the texture is lost in the container in lots of little crumbs? In this case, you can easily provide first aid with a little DIY to save your eyeshadow.

1. Put the crumbled eyeshadow into the small container and use the spatula to process it into a fine powder. The finer the powder, the smoother the eye shadow will be. Then use the pipette or a small spoon to take the alcohol and add a few drops to the powder and mix well. Repeat this step until the mixture has a creamy consistency (it should neither crumble nor be too runny).

You need:

  • High-proof alcohol (available in pharmacies)

  • Small bowl or container

  • Spatula

  • Coin

  • Clean handkerchief

  • Optional: Pipette for easier dosing

2. Now use the spatula to pour the creamy mixture back into the original aluminium pan. Then place the tissue on the pan so that the entire surface is covered and place the coin on the tissue. Now simply press the coin onto the powder and hold it for a few seconds. Almost done!

3. Now remove the coin and the tissue. Practical: The excess alcohol has been absorbed by the tissue. All that should remain is a smooth, pressed surface. Allow the eyeshadow to dry completely overnight. Your eyeshadow is ready - as good as new!

There is also a quicker way: Crumble the broken eyeshadow in the tin into a mass and apply the fine pigments to your eyelid with a clean finger or brush. You should apply a primer, concealer or foundation beforehand so that the individual pigments adhere better.

How do I know if my eyeshadow is bad?

If you notice the following changes in the product, replace the eye shadow as a precaution. In general, if you experience itching, redness or other unusual skin reactions when applying the product, you should not continue to use the product under any circumstances.
